The Obama administration is no stranger to hypocrisy. In fact, it
seems as though President Obama and his cohorts are backpedaling every
time we turn around. I guess it’s the only way this administration knows
how to run the government.
For example, when President Obama was a senator, he opposed the
Patriot Act. He even signed a letter, along with eight other senators,
stating that the act would, “allow government fishing expeditions
targeting innocent Americans.” He even campaigned against such measures
during his first presidential run. Yet the NSA is guilty of a few
fishing expeditions of their own that all took place under Obama’s
watch…
And let’s not forget that Obama, Vice President Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry recently supported military action against Syria without Congress’ authorization. In the past, though, each man had supported executive action against military threats only when Congress gave approval.
But, of course, that was under the Bush administration. The rules
changed when Obama took office. That’s just how this administration
works.
History Repeats Itself
With such a history of hypocrisy, it should come as no surprise that the administration is flip-flopping on gun control, too.
Not long after the Sandy Hook shooting, Wayne LaPierre, the NRA’s
Executive Vice President and CEO, argued that every school in America
should have armed guards: “[W]hen it comes to the most beloved, innocent
and vulnerable members of the American family – our children – we as a
society leave them utterly defenseless, and the monsters and predators
of this world know it and exploit it. That must change now… I call on
Congress today to act immediately, to appropriate whatever is necessary
to put armed police officers in every school — and to do it now…”
At the time, the president was happy to blast the idea. He gave
speeches (surrounded by armed guards) demanding fewer guns across the
board. But it’s funny how the left will attack a man’s opinion and then
turn around and do exactly what he’s suggested.
You see, the Department of Justice (DoJ) announced last week that
it’s allocating nearly $45 million in grant funds to place armed guards
in schools. The DoJ’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS)
department will provide the grants that will cover the cost of 356 new
school resource officer positions in schools across the country.
Attorney General Eric Holder stated that Newtown, Connecticut would
receive $150,000 to put officers in its schools: “Just over nine months
after the senseless mass shooting at Sandy Hook, we remain committed to
providing every resource we can to ensure that the children of Newtown
can feel safe and secure at school and elsewhere. And as we hold lost
loved ones in our thoughts and prayers, we resolve to continue to
support and protect this community — and to help them heal together.”
Don’t be fooled. This is just another move by the Obama
administration to convince Americans that we’re not as bad off as we
thought. Chances are that it’s a ploy to get our guard down – if only
for a short while. You can be sure that President Obama hasn’t changed
his mind about guns or gun control. He’s just giving us an inch so that he can eventually take another mile.
